Forever haunted by 16-year-old Dean’s pained, tearful smile as he looks down at his little brother from the window at Sonny’s. He’s safe. He’s happy for the first time in a long time. He’s doing good in school, he’s supposed to go to a dance. He has an adult who protects and believes in him for the first time he can remember. He doesn’t have to steal to put food in his belly. He doesn’t have to raise a kid when he’s a kid himself.
And he’s gonna give it all up, walk willingly back into fear and instability and deprivation and neglect and abuse, because he can’t leave his little brother alone.
mickey + gradually releasing himself from his father’s grip
You think Mickey would be this amazing person peole rave about if it werent for Ian? Imagine if he never met Ian. Imagine 16 years old Ian give up after calling him a warm mouth after their hook ups or beating him up all the time. Imagine Ian walk away because he didnt want to get involve in that toxic abuse. Mickey could be the next Terry Milkovich following his father’s footsteps. Its because of Ian he has a whole new family now.
yes i do think that, with time, a gay teenager living with his homophobic abuser could’ve gotten out of that situation with or without someone else’s help. mickey grew because MICKEY grew. you’re basically saying at the core, mickey is an evil man like his father and the change that he has implemented in his own life is merely a mask that ian is responsible for, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. mickey is not terry, has never been terry, had more than enough potential to end that vicious cycle on his OWN, and did just that. keep this take to yourself thanks
i think its so special that everyone has a few pieces of media that have changed their perception of like…the world…thats so nice that everyone has a personal connection with art and movies and books and idk it makes me happy
