i think the biggest thing everyone gets wrong about supernatural is that it is or ever was like. coherent and planned out. people talk like the kripke era was the most planned out and some big cohesive masterpiece but like bobby only exists bc they couldn’t get back the actor playing missouri. they didn’t know if they would kill off the dad season one or not. jo was supposed to be a main character and a real love interest for dean. dean went to hell because of a writer’s strike. they never planned to bring in angels. they REALLY clearly didn’t plan out the end of season 4 from the beginning because there’s so many continuity errors around it. we don’t even know if cas was meant to die in heaven and hell or on the head of a pin and clearly anna was meant to be a bigger deal and whatever that storyline would’ve been was lost (implying to me they PROBABLY wouldn’t have brought lisa back in the same way). the show would’ve had a totally different ending had it not been renewed for season 6 (which was never meant to happen anyway). 

and that’s just like the kripke era and off the top of my head. it’s even more obvious with the later seasons that almost everything interesting they ever did was totally an accident and this was 15 seasons of people stumbling into shit. 

so like. in terms of the ending being the way it was, yes the dabb era was much more cohesive and planned in advance than i think any past era of the show because there was a clear end in sight and seasons flow into each other more smoothly and there’s more clear build up and pay off, but ultimately the people running this show were kind of flying on the seat of their pants. it’s not like. insane that this all finally caught up to them and created something so unsatisfying. 

this is a show that was dumb enough to introduce a character the way they introduced cas with the intention of killing him off like. 6 episodes later and thinking anna would be the more interesting “angelic guide” of the two. it feels sort of like their luck just ran out.
