god but season 8 of supernatural really was on some different shit. dean tearing through half the monsters in purgatory all to find cas. becoming unlikely allies then friends then sad exes with this cajun bear of a vampire. cas doing everything in his power to keep dean safe. just everything about purgatory in general. then after, dean grieving and hallucinating cas (perfectly mirroring the way sam grieved jess in season 1!!). having his “gay thing” with aaron (????). “no, the one in miami”. then cas coming back, going through his post-purgatory makeover just so we can see how dean reacts to it (weirdly and frankly very homosexually). cas being brainwashed and the only thing that can break through that brainwashing being his love for dean. “i need you”!!!!!

meanwhile sam is off in his heterosexual corner, going through the objectively stupidest subplot the spn writers have ever cooked up.
